Dune 2000 is set on the alien planet Arrakis, a desert planet ruled by the gigantic sandworms which pillage the landscape. The land is also home to the wonder drug, the spice melange, which is the galaxy's most needed luxury. The Shaddah Emperor has declared the planet Arrakis a battleground to whom whoever can take control of the planet. Three factions fight off for the control of the planet. Controlling the planet, controls the spice, and controlling the spice, means controlling the universe. The three factions are House Atredies, wise tacticans and masters of the air, House Harkonnen, evil and tenacious, they will use any means to destroy the other factions. And lastly, House Ordoe's. master saboteurs, very manipulative and vile, will use anything outside of the rules to win. The fate of the universe is in the fate of one of these factions.
